Betty Smittey has spent the last 49 years locked up in the Arizona state prison complex in Perryville, Ariz. The almost fifty years stint makes her the longest serving female inmate. The 69-year old who was convicted in the 1963 New Year Day’s murder of Sandy Gerberick, woke up a free woman. At just 20 years old, Smithey was arrested, charged and convicted of murdering a 15-month old girl she had been babysitting. She’s almost 70 years old now and has done a lot of reflection.
Like Smithey, are you feeling imprisoned by the bad decisions you’ve made in the past? Are you held in bondage to sins you can’t free yourself from? Are you addicted to drugs orwhateverfor so long you’ve given up? There’s hope for you today. Just as she was freed, you too can be freed from that prison and begin life afresh on a clean slate. The Holy Bible says, “he who the Son sets free is free indeed”. John 8:36. Liberty from the chains of sin, fear, anxieties, worry, sickness, frustrations, suicidal tendencies, family tensions, financial quagmire etc begins with surrendering your life to Jesus. Jesus said, “Come unto Me all ye that laborand are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Matt.11:28. He loves you so much He died to set you free. He is the key that unlocks every prison door, no matter how long you’ve been incarcerated.
As you pray this prayer now, heaven’s gate will open to you, welcoming you into a new phase of life: Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I confess You today as my Lord and Saviour. Forgive all my sins and make me Your child. Thank You for saving my soul.
