The Test of True Love

November 25, 2017

The family doctor told little John that he could save his sister’s life by giving her some blood. The little 5-year-old girl was near death, she was a victim of the same deadly disease from which John, her elder brother of age eight had made a marvelous recovery two year earlier. The only Chance for restoration to health was a blood transfusion from someone who had previously conquered the illness. Since the two children (John and the sick little sister) had the same rare blood type, the boy was the ideal donor, “John would you like to give your blood for your sister Mary?” the doctor asked him. The boy hesitated. His lower lips started to tremble out of fear. Then, he finally smiled and said, “Yes, doctor. I’ll give my blood for my sister.” Soon, the two children were wheeled into the operating theatre- Mary, now very pale and thin; John, robust and the picture of health. Neither of them said any word, they both remained silent but when their eyes met, John grinned. As the blood siphoned into Mary’s veins, one could obviously see new life come into her weak and tired body. The ordeal was almost over when John’s brave little voice broke the long silence, “Say, doctor, when will I die?” It was then that the doctor realized what the moment of hesitation, the trembling of the lips had meant earlier. Being a small boy, John actually thought that when giving his blood to his sister, he was giving up his life and in that brief moment, the final decision that he made was the greatest love of all. He was willing to give up his life to save his little sister. The Bible says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Joh 15:13 John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life”.

Jesus said, “for this is My blood of the new testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins” Matt.26:28. Jesus shed His blood that you may live and not die. Rejecting His love will certainly pain His heart but end you in hell. Surrender to Him now.

Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I confess You today as my Lord and Saviour. Forgive all my sins and make me Your child. Thank You for saving my soul.
